“In endorsing independent Jim Burton, we recognize his long tenure on the Board of Supervisors and his deep understanding of county finances and the needs of the rural economy... Burton is a gentleman of high integrity and he maintains a discerning nature that is likely necessary in the coming years.”

“LEA recommends Jim Burton for Blue Ridge Supervisor.  We know Jim to have an open door policy in order to gain the most information possible prior to a vote.  Jim is willing to do the homework necessary to make an educated vote.”
Sandy Sullivan
President
Loudoun Education Association

“The Western Loudoun Schools PAC is pleased to endorse Jim Burton for re-election to the Board of Supervisors for Blue Ridge.  Jim has a long record of constructive engagement with our members, concerned Loudoun parents and taxpayers, and has consistently supported our principles and concerns, such as supporting community-based schools, helping to ensure the right size, location, and cost of new schools in a way to preserve the unique rural values and economy of Blue Ridge, and improving process and openness  with Loudoun County Public Schools.  We look forward to his continuing leadership on the Board, as we face the challenges of new schools for our communities at the same time as we need good fiscal stewardship, and more transparency, and accountability.”

From the Loudoun Times Mirror Online – 10/29/11
“It was my honor to serve the citizens of the Blue Ridge District on the Loudoun County Board of Supervisors for eight years alongside Jim Burton. Since leaving office I have avoided the political fray; however, the upcoming election is of such importance, I am compelled to write and urge the Blue Ridge District residents, both old and new, to vote for and re-elect Jim Burton as your supervisor.

During our years of working together at hundreds of meetings, public hearings and work sessions, I found Jim to be a hard working and dedicated public servant of strong intellect and impeccable integrity. His work over the years from writing the Board’s Code of Ethics, standing firm and working to get Woodgrove High School built and managing to find funds for the county’s growing needs while insisting on keeping our tax rate affordable for our citizens demonstrates his ability to find answers to tough challenges.

Loudoun County needs Jim Burton’s steady presence on the Board of Supervisors representing the families of the Blue Ridge District. “
Eleanore C. Towe
Former Blue Ridge District Supervisor

“In the ten years I have known him, my Supervisor, Jim Burton has always been the strongest defender I know of the interests, values and property of Loudoun’s residents against those who would exploit us for their own personal gain.  He brings to this defense an attractive vision of our future, an intelligent and deep understanding of the issues that face us, prudent and careful management of the County’s purse and a strong personal and professional morality.  I sleep better at night knowing that Jim is on the job.”
Mitch Diamond
Retired businessman
Round Hill

“During his many years as a Supervisor, Jim Burton has earned a reputation for personal integrity, thoughtful analysis of problems and unflinching dedication to the County’s best interests.  Loudoun needs Jim and more like him.”
Bruce Smart
Former U.S. Undersecretary of Commerce
Reagan Administration

“Jim Burton understands the needs of our senior citizens.  He found the money to keep the Carver School Senior Center renovation on schedule.  It’s now open and is a marvelous asset for the citizens of Western Loudoun, especially the Seniors.”
Mattie Lassiter
Purcellville Community Leader

Letter to the Editor, October 28, Purcellville Gazette
“In response to Mr. Brooks’ October 21 editorial “Enough of tax and spend Jim,” the voter is led astray with incorrect facts about the unpleasant and costly delay of the construction of Woodgrove High School (WHS). Thanks to past supervisor Towe and Burton’s foresight and persistence purchasing Field’s Farm property for a western Loudoun high school and getting the voter referendum in 2005, we have our much needed WHS. Scheduled to open in the fall of 2008, the Town of Purcellville unethically derailed this project by filing a series of lawsuits against the county, costing over $7,000,000. After the first four lawsuits were settled (mostly in the county’s favor), the fifth, negotiated at the time by recently appointed (not elected) town council member Clarke, extorted over $7,000,000 from the county, including excessive water and sewer hookup fees (approx. $950,000), to settle and break ground for WHS. The Town of Purcellville, on Janet Clarke’s watch, spent the ill-gotten gains and ran up the town’s debt on “feel good” improvements such as the new town hall, sidewalk improvements, and the cosmetic improvements to Fireman’s Field’s parking lot. Ms. Clarke cost the Loudoun taxpayers over $7,000,000, along with $100,000’s in added costs and legal fees. In 2005, I personally attended and spoke at the town council meetings regarding the location of Woodgrove and talked to Ms. Clarke afterwards, who offered no solutions to the location of the school, or to the overcrowded middle and high school. Her lack of political experience does not make her a suitable replacement for Mr. Burton and she will certainly not reduce the tax burden on Loudoun taxpayers. As a junior at Woodgrove High School, I am proud to say thank you Mr. Burton for providing a brand new, state of the art western Loudoun high school that serves my community.”
